Budget induction cooktops

Cheap induction cooktops in Australia โ€” what you give up at the entry level, what you do not, and whether budget brands are worth it.

The reassuring thing about buying induction cheaply is that the core benefits are not premium features. An entry-level cooktop heats the pan directly, reaches working temperature in seconds, responds instantly to control changes and wipes clean the same way a $2,500 one does. The physics does not get better with price.

What you give up at the entry level is mostly control resolution and flexibility: fewer power levels, which makes very low simmering harder; coarser low-end behaviour, where cheap units hold a low temperature by pulsing full power rather than genuinely modulating; no bridge or flex zones; plainer glass edges; and shorter warranties. On portable units specifically, cheaper models also tend to have louder fans and shorter working lives.

The factor worth paying attention to at every price is local service support, because induction fails at its inverter electronics rather than at a simple element. The guides below cover the budget end, including how Kmart-tier units stack up against branded ones.
